Marinas line the coast and waterway, as do seafood restaurants, casino boats and outfitters. The Intracoastal Waterway begins its inland track to Georgetown at this point, and much of life in Little River is based on boating, fishing and watersports. Originally called “Mineola” by Native Americans, the translation “Little River” serves as the namesake of the town and the body of water that flows from the Atlantic Ocean along the waterfront (Mineola Avenue) and forms the state border with North Carolina. The earliest settlement in Horry County maintains its character as a small fishing village.
